Boredom at the charger is about to become a thing of the past. Hyundai has turned the built-in screen of its electric cars into a full-blown entertainment hub across Europe — and this looks like just the opening move.
The new Entertainment Package unlocks Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Haystack News, games, karaoke and kids' content directly on the dashboard. The logic is simple: while the battery is topping up, drivers and passengers get a show instead of a staring contest with the charging pillar.
The package is available for the IONIQ 6, IONIQ 6 N, IONIQ 9 and STARIA Electric — but only the versions fitted with the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit system. Everything runs through the Bluelink Store inside the myHyundai app, and buyers can pay annually or lock in a three-year plan.
That's where the story gets a second act. The upgraded version of the package adds a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, letting passengers connect their own smartphones, tablets and other devices straight to the car's internet connection. The catch: Netflix, Disney+ and several other apps still require their own separate subscription, and the exact lineup shifts from country to country.
Hyundai hasn't revealed pricing yet. Nor has it said how consistently any of this will actually work — connection quality and available features depend on the market, mobile network coverage and the specific trim of the car.
