The numbers are almost a quarter of a thousand kilometers apart — and both are official. The BMW iX3 promises up to 805 km of range in Europe under the WLTP cycle. Bring the same battery to Brazil, and the local PBEV/Inmetro methodology suddenly only allows for 570 km. That's a 235 km gap. Coincidence? No, just a different measuring stick.
The battery didn't shrink. The testing conditions did the damage. And even with the smaller number, the iX3 still came out on top — becoming the longest-range production EV on the Brazilian market. At least according to BMW's local division.
The previous record holder, the BMW iX, stopped at 498 km. The newcomer pulled ahead by 72 km, a 14% jump. Not a revolution, but the old crown didn't last long either way. Sales start within weeks, though BMW is still keeping pricing and trim details under wraps. The first version to land in Brazil will be the iX3 50 xDrive, with two electric motors putting out 469 hp and 645 Nm, hitting 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Usable battery capacity sits at 108.7 kWh.
The 800V architecture supports charging up to 400 kW: 10% to 80% in 21 minutes under ideal conditions. Just don't confuse the spec sheet with a real-world drive. 570 km isn't guaranteed on the highway with the air conditioning blasting, and Europe's 805 km definitely doesn't transfer straight to Brazilian roads. What the comparison does show honestly: measured the same way, the new iX3 clearly outruns its own sibling, the iX.
Price is still the open question. The Neue Klasse platform hands Brazil a record range and very fast charging — but how much more that will cost over BMW's current electric crossovers, the brand isn't saying yet.
