It was too good to last. The rumor that Honda was reviving the Crosstour barely survived a full day. Automotive News, citing an internal plan and a source with knowledge of it, reported on a raised, five-door Accord that could reportedly enter production in mid-2029 in Marysville. But Honda wasn’t interested in playing along, telling Car and Driver flatly: “This information is not based on any Honda statement. We do not have plans to produce a vehicle of that type.”
And there was plenty to dream about. The rumored model was already being called the Accord SUV, cast as a hybrid rival to the Subaru Outback and Toyota Crown Signia, complete with taller ground clearance, a sloped roofline and a more usable cargo area. Autoevolution went further still, claiming the project was already approved. The problem is that Automotive News’ own reporting only described a model under consideration — nothing more, nothing less.
Still, there’s no smoke without fire. Honda has officially committed to 15 next-generation hybrid models, due out before the end of the fiscal year that closes on March 31, 2030. Large class-D-and-up hybrids are expected to land in North America in 2029, and spare capacity at its Ohio plants will shift toward gas and hybrid production. The automaker just hasn’t named any of them yet.
The Honda Hybrid Sedan Prototype shown in May shouldn’t be hastily filed under “next Accord” either. The automaker confirmed its arrival within two years, riding on a new hybrid platform, but never officially tied the prototype to any production nameplate. The future system is said to cut costs by more than 30% and lift fuel efficiency by at least 10% over current hardware.
So the nearest real shift in Honda’s lineup is a broader hybrid push — not a confirmed Crosstour revival. The Accord SUV could still land on the product plan someday. Later. Right now there is no official name, no approved body style, no production date. The next checkpoint will be Honda’s published calendar of major North American hybrids for 2029.
