Volkswagen Group is not just trimming its lineup — it's tearing apart its own parts bin. The company unveiled a plan to slash the number of models and component variants it builds. The targets are part of the Group Target Picture 2030 program, published on July 10 alongside the first-half 2026 report.
The Group wants to cut component diversity by 75% on average. For the mass-market brand group, front lighting variants will shrink by 60%, front bumpers by 50%, and core seat modules by 30%.
The premium brands get it even worse. In the premium group, steering wheel variants should drop by 60%, wheel rims by 50%. And here's the wildest part: seat components, counting colors and materials, get cut by 90% — the Group is essentially gutting almost its entire options catalog.
At the same time, Volkswagen Group plans to cut its model lineup by up to 50% and focus on its most profitable segments. Earlier reports covered the Group's plans to reduce the number of models, platforms and electronic architectures. Timelines for individual brands and vehicles have not yet been disclosed.
