Nobody asked Tesla for permission — and that's the whole story with the WETOX D2. The device promises to turn any Model 3, Y, S, or X into a power source for your home or campsite. Officially, Tesla has nothing to do with it.
The new WETOX D2's claimed 6.6 kW isn't available through just any household socket. The European version is rated for 6 kW continuous and 6.6 kW peak power, but a Schuko outlet is capped at 3.68 kW, and the British Type G caps out at just 2.99 kW. So running several power-hungry heaters at once from a standard plug simply won't work.
The WETOX D2 is not a passive adapter or a software unlock for Tesla. It draws 320-480V DC straight from the charging port, negotiates with the car on its own, and converts battery energy into a standard 230V household supply. Inside sits a dedicated silicon carbide inverter, and the whole unit with cable weighs nearly 5.5 kg.
The Kickstarter price starts at $899. That won't last — retail is set at $1,699, while a two-unit bundle runs $1,499. Shipping is billed separately.
Here's the catch. Tesla's own support page still says it in black and white: Powershare is available only on the Cybertruck. Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y don't support it — full stop. WETOX isn't unlocking some hidden factory mode; it's simply working around the lack of a bidirectional onboard charger with its own DC-AC converter.
The maker claims compatibility with Model 3, Y, S, and X — with one condition: the car must support the CCS protocol. Some older vehicles will need a charging module update first. And that's not all — WETOX itself admits future Tesla firmware updates could break the device at any time, promising only to patch compatibility back in over the air.
Tesla, to be clear, has confirmed neither the safety nor the compatibility of the WETOX D2. The manual itself warns that damage caused by unapproved accessories may not be covered under warranty. So the next real test isn't marketing copy — it's actual European shipments landing, independent testing under sustained load, and an official word from Tesla on what happens to your warranty.
