Kia named it the Black Edition, blacked it out from every angle — and then sent it to dealers wearing red. The standard body colour of the special seven-seat EV9 for the 2027 model year is Flair Red Metallic. Everything else is where the black went.
Gloss black now covers the front, the flanks and the rear, the roof rails and the panel that imitates underbody protection. The Kia badge, the EV9 lettering and the covers of the 20-inch alloy wheels have gone dark too. Beyond the standard red there are seven more colours, including the exclusive matte Panthera Metal finish.
The starting point is the all-wheel-drive Earth trim: one electric motor per axle, 141.3 kW each, 283 kW (385 hp) in total. The torque figure is the more interesting one — 700 Nm, more than the regular Earth delivers. That is how a five-metre seven-seater covers the 0–100 km/h sprint in 5.3 seconds while still being rated to tow 2.5 tonnes. Top speed is 200 km/h.
The battery holds 99.8 kWh and the WLTP range reaches 521 km. Under favourable conditions, charging from 10 to 80% takes 24 minutes. Enough time for a coffee. Not enough for lunch.
Inside, Kia has bundled almost everything an Earth owner would otherwise pay extra for. Premium Relaxation seats for driver and front passenger, a massage function for the driver’s chair, a steering column with electric reach and height adjustment, memory settings for seat, wheel and mirrors. Add black Black Edition leather-look upholstery and a black headliner. Standard equipment also includes a Meridian sound system, ventilated seats in the first and second rows, a heat pump, ambient lighting, rear axle self-levelling and 100-watt USB-C ports.
And here is the part that matters. In Germany the Black Edition starts at 79,990 euros — just 1800 euros above the all-wheel-drive EV9 Earth. Order that equipment separately and you would not get half of it for the money. For reference, the EV9 range opens at 63,690 euros.
Kia has also refreshed the rest of the 2027 line-up without touching base prices, adding the improved i-Pedal 3.0 regenerative braking system and new decorative inlays. The structure stays familiar: Air, Earth and GT-Line, rear- or all-wheel drive, batteries of 76.1 and 99.8 kWh. The range champion is still the rear-drive version with the big pack and its 563 km, while the GT remains the muscle of the family with 374 kW (508 hp) and 4.6 seconds to 100 km/h. Every version carries a seven-year vehicle warranty and an eight-year battery warranty.
Deliveries of the Black Edition and the rest of the 2027 model year begin at the end of October.
