Honda has announced a recall in Japan for 1,143 Accord sedans carrying the 6AA-CY2 designation — and the reason turned out to be something easy to overlook. The campaign covers vehicles built in Thailand between April 3 and December 3, 2025. The notice reached Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on July 30, 2026, and the repair campaign kicked off the very next day, July 31.
The culprit is a defect in the seat back frames of the driver's and front passenger seats. Because of an unsuitable press mold and insufficient production control, the edge of the left side frame wasn't formed correctly on some units. A small detail? On paper, maybe. But its shape doesn't meet Japan's current safety standards — full stop.
Honda isn't planning to replace the seats entirely. Instead, dealers will add protective material to the edge of the left side frame element on both front seats across every vehicle in the campaign. The work will be done free of charge.
As of the announcement, no reports of the defect showing up in practice — and no related accidents — had come in. That lowers the urgency compared with recalls tied to brakes or steering, but it doesn't erase the need for repair: the issue has been officially recognized as a safety standard violation.
The recall is registered specifically for the Japanese market. It doesn't automatically extend to Accord units imported into other countries, even if the car was also built in Thailand. Owners of a grey-market import with a matching designation and chassis number should separately request a check from the seller, importer, or an overseas dealer.
Earlier, it was reported that Honda N-BOX picked up an automatic brake module.
Campaign details: the notification number filed with Japan's transport ministry is Gai-4216, covering chassis numbers CY2-1100014 through CY2-1101183. Owners will be notified by mail; service centers are also being informed through the trade publication of Japan's auto repair association.
