Pickup fans in Mexico just got a reason to get excited: General Motors has officially confirmed the next-generation Chevrolet Cheyenne is coming to the local market in 2027. For the uninitiated, Cheyenne isn't a separate model in Mexico — it's the name reserved for the top, most loaded versions of the Silverado family. The work-truck trims stay Silverado, while everything premium goes to Cheyenne.
According to GM Authority, the top of the Mexican lineup will be occupied by the ZR2 and High Country trims — the off-road flagship and the luxury flagship, both at once. But here's where it gets interesting. The outlet expects at least one more affordable trim and the return of a regular cab — but GM hasn't confirmed either one officially. So as logical as an expanded lineup sounds, it's not guaranteed yet.
The engine picture is a lot clearer — at least globally. The next-generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500 arrives with four powertrains. Alongside the familiar 2.7-liter TurboMax turbo-four and the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel, two brand-new naturally aspirated V8s join the lineup — 5.7 and 6.6 liters. Chevrolet is keeping horsepower and torque figures under wraps for now, only promising gains over the outgoing engines. Which of these engines will actually make it to the Mexican Cheyenne is anyone's guess at this point.
The cabin, on the other hand, is no longer a secret. Every new Silverado gets a 16.3-inch center touchscreen and a 12.2-inch digital gauge cluster as standard. ZR2 and High Country go even further, adding an 11.5-inch front passenger display, a head-up display, and a digital rearview mirror — a feature set that would have looked right at home in a luxury sedan not so long ago.
