Land Rover unveils the Velar Urban Contrast Edition for Japan — 120 units, heated everything, and a price tag that says exclusivity isn't cheap.

Range Rover has decided that winter shouldn't come without style: Japan just got a special Velar Urban Contrast Edition, and there will be only 120 of them. The price is 8.99 million yen (around $56,500). That's the factory price for Japan, before local taxes, delivery, or registration fees.

The newcomer is built on the Velar S D200. There are no mechanical changes: under the hood sits the same 2.0-liter mild-hybrid diesel engine producing 204 hp. The real drama isn't the engine — it's everything wrapped around it.

The biggest upgrade is in the equipment list, and Land Rover didn't hold back. The standard kit now includes a heated windshield, heated washer jets, a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats, while the front seats get both heating and ventilation. There are also headlight washers, darkened rear windows and black 20-inch wheels.

Buyers can choose between white Fuji White, black Santorini Black, grey Carpathian Grey and golden Batumi Gold. Three of the four colors, everything but black, can be paired with a contrasting roof. The cabin comes in either all-black or a lighter Cloud/Ebony combination.

Official JLR Japan dealers are already taking orders. What happens next is the interesting part: will all 120 units sell quickly? Power and driving dynamics have nothing to do with it — demand will come down to rare color combinations and how much buyers value the extra kit.
