The BMW iX3 50 xDrive puts out 469 hp and rockets to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds — and according to BMW, that’s apparently just the “mid-tier” option. A BMW executive let that phrase slip almost in passing, but it reshapes the entire picture of the lineup. If the 50 xDrive is the middle, there’s clearly room at the top. And that space is likely reserved for an M Performance version, presumably called the iX3 M60.
The hint came from Brendan Michel, BMW Australia’s head of product and market planning. Speaking to Carsales, he didn’t confirm a new variant outright — but his “mid-tier model” comment said more than any official announcement could.
Right now, the lineup has two versions. It starts with the rear-wheel-drive BMW iX3 40: a single electric motor producing 320 hp and 500 Nm of torque, with a 0-62 mph time of 5.9 seconds. Above it sits the dual-motor iX3 50 xDrive, delivering 469 hp and 645 Nm, with a usable battery capacity of 108.7 kWh and a range of up to 805 km (WLTP).
One important distinction: a possible iX3 M Performance model isn’t the same thing as a full-blown BMW M electric vehicle. The first high-performance Neue Klasse M models won’t arrive until 2027, and they’ll be an entirely different beast — four electric motors, a dedicated M Dynamic Performance Control system, and a battery optimized for extreme loads. There’s no official link between that technology and the iX3 body yet.
That’s why a dual-motor iX3 M60 looks like the logical middle step: more power, retuned suspension, upgraded brakes, and reworked traction software — without turning the crossover into a full four-motor M monster. This is an editorial assessment, not a confirmed spec, but it’s exactly how BMW typically bridges the gap between a mainstream model and its flagship M variant.
The real confirmation will come when a higher-spec variant shows up in BMW’s official lineup or certification filings. Until then, the iX3 M60 name, its power output, range, and production date remain speculation — albeit well-informed speculation.
