Mitsubishi isn’t just bringing the Pajero back — it is assembling an entire army of off-roaders. Nikkei Asia reports that the full-size flagship will be followed by a compact version due in 2028 or 2029, and that the legendary Pajero Mini could rejoin the ranks by 2030.
And this is not distant gossip. Back in May, Mitsubishi made it official — the new Pajero becomes a series, and the brand will launch 13 new models over six years. The flagship arrives in autumn 2026 on the ladder frame of the Triton pickup.
The junior Pajero, according to preliminary information, will be sized much like the Toyota RAV4 and the Mazda CX-5 — but with far tougher off-road ambitions. The source links it to a dedicated platform and to Outlander components, although Mitsubishi has not confirmed that hardware.
And now the best part. The Pajero Mini is a direct strike at the Suzuki Jimny. Back in the 90s the Mitsubishi kei car was already the main rival of the little Suzuki hit, and the compact Pajero Junior and Pajero iO lived alongside it in the range. Reviving the name is a logical continuation of that story. Only the stakes are higher now.
The nearest test of the strategy, however, comes much sooner — at the world premiere of the big Pajero in autumn 2026. Until the smaller models are officially announced, the timing between 2028 and 2030 stays preliminary.
