One recall wasn't enough to close the book on Rivian's turn signal problem. The automaker wrapped up a campaign over front turn signals back in June 2025 — but the defect never actually went away. After 17 new failure reports, Rivian has pulled another 3,829 R1S and R1T electric vehicles from the 2025–2026 model years into a separate NHTSA campaign, number 26V508. The company estimates only 0.6% of the recalled vehicles actually carry the defect, so this isn't a case of every car in the batch being broken.
The new campaign expands recall 25V387 from June 2025. Rivian's investigation found that a supplier failed to fully isolate incorrectly manufactured components, and some of those flawed front turn signal lamps slipped back into production. The fresh batch includes 3,204 R1S crossovers and 625 R1T pickups.
The defect itself is simple. One or both front turn signals may stop lighting up and flashing entirely. That puts the vehicles out of compliance with FMVSS 108, the federal lighting standard — other drivers have a harder time reading a car's intent to turn, which raises the risk of a crash. Rivian says it isn't aware of a single crash, injury, or death tied to the issue.
The car itself flags the failure. A warning appears on the display reading “Turn signal inoperative. Please visit service soon,” while the remaining working signals start blinking and clicking twice as fast.
One important difference from Rivian's more serious recalls: the NHTSA filing carries no Do Not Drive or Park Outside advisory, meaning there's no requirement to stop driving the vehicle or park it outdoors. Owners will get their front lights inspected for free, with replacement parts fitted to the current spec if needed.
The next checkpoint is already on the calendar. Affected VINs are set to appear in NHTSA's database on August 31, 2026, and owner notification letters are due out no later than September 29. Rivian's internal number for the campaign is FSAM-1833.
