The gasoline engine in the Lexus NX is, it seems, already history. Lexus Japan has quietly, without any grand announcement, pulled the plug on the NX 350 with its regular turbo engine: a short notice appeared on the brand's official website confirming sales had ended, and that was it. The current lineup now only offers hybrids — the NX 350h and the plug-in NX 450h+.
And it wasn't a weak engine, either. The 2.4-liter turbo four made 205 kW (about 279 hp) and 430 Nm of torque — numbers that could hold their own against the competition. Paired with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, it made for a genuinely lively crossover. But it looks like this engine's time in the NX lineup has run out. As for why now, exactly, Lexus Japan isn't saying.
The trend isn't limited to Japan, either: in Australia, the share of gasoline NX models has slipped from 22.1% of the model's sales in 2024 to 16.8% in 2025. Lexus Australia hasn't committed to fully switching the local lineup to hybrids — but judging by the numbers, that's exactly where things are headed.
