Deepal just rewrote the electronic brain of the G318 — and the Chinese version of the crossover now sees the world through very different eyes. The car has gained Huawei QianKun ADS 5 Pro and a full 27 environment-sensing units. There's an important catch for buyers elsewhere: the G318 sold in other markets runs a far simpler set of driver-assist tools, and there's still no confirmation that ADS 5 Pro will ever reach them.
The new suite includes a single compact Limera lidar tucked behind the windshield inside the cabin, three millimeter-wave 4D radars, 11 high-resolution cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors. That setup is meant to power urban and highway NCA navigation, automated parking and the CAS collision-avoidance suite. ADS 5 Pro itself runs on Huawei's WEWA 2.0 architecture.
Deepal claims access to 60 EFLOPS of cloud computing power and a dataset built from more than 1 billion kilometers of driving. The cloud-based algorithms, the company says, get updated roughly every four days. Impressive numbers — but they describe the infrastructure behind the system's development, not the computing power sitting inside the car itself.
Huawei is careful to stress that ADS 5 remains a driver-assistance system, not autopilot. A human still has to watch the road and be ready to take over at any moment. Beyond city driving, the new architecture is built to handle intersections, roundabouts, parking lots and narrow roads. The contrast with other markets' G318 is stark.
The version sold outside China comes with adaptive cruise control, lane centering, blind-spot monitoring and automatic braking, but Huawei ADS is nowhere on that spec sheet. The G318 itself already ships with a series hybrid powertrain rated at 439 hp, all-wheel drive and a range beyond 1,000 km.
So the Chinese update is most interesting right now as a preview — a look at what other markets could eventually get, if the automaker ever pulls the trigger. If ADS 5 Pro does make the jump, the G318 will change far more in its electronics than in its powertrain.
