A near-identical body, a radically different mind: Deepal G318 debuts Huawei ADS 5 Pro and 27 sensors at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21.

It’s not the engine or the body that’s about to steal the show for the Deepal G318. At the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21, the brand will unveil an updated version of its off-roader packing Huawei ADS 5 Pro, HarmonySpace 5, and a sensor suite of 27 units. The exterior stays almost untouched — the real overhaul is happening under the skin.

The jump to ADS 5 Pro is far more than a routine infotainment update. Huawei rolled out the ADS 5 generation in spring 2026, built on the new WEWA 2.0 architecture and tuned for considerably more complex driving scenarios. Huawei itself is careful to stress that this remains a driver-assistance system, not a replacement for the person behind the wheel.

According to Yiche, the G318 will get 27 perception elements, including a lidar unit. The new HarmonySpace 5 runs on the MoLA architecture: its voice interface can handle mixed speech across ten Chinese dialects, while the navigation agent understands loose, conversational requests — like finding a restaurant with easy parking. Phone and car will also be able to hand off route data to each other the moment you step in or out.

The update has been in the works for a while. Back in June, Deepal chairman Deng Chenghao confirmed that a new G318 with Huawei Qiankun tech and a Harmony-based cabin was due in the third quarter — without naming an exact date.

The powertrain, based on preliminary information, isn’t changing radically: expect a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender rated at 110 kW, with rear- or all-wheel-drive versions. Air suspension with CDC, locking differentials, and vehicle-to-load power should all carry over. On the current G318, these already form the backbone of its off-road credentials — up to 240 mm of ground clearance, adaptive suspension, and a trailer capacity of up to 1,600 kg.

After the August 21 reveal, the numbers that matter most won’t be power or size — they’ll be the price of the updated G318 and which trims actually get ADS 5 Pro. Whether that electronics package ever reaches cars sold outside China remains an open question, one only Changan can answer.
