Changan's flagship Deepal S09 showed up at Chengdu Motor Show 2026 with a 53.49 kWh battery, up to 310 km of pure EV range and a 10-minute fast charge.

Nobody expected a six-seat SUV to cover 310 km without burning a drop of gasoline. At the 29th Chengdu Motor Show 2026, Changan unveiled its flagship Deepal S09 — and this big SUV is ready to impress with more than just its size. Length stands at 5,205 mm, wheelbase at 3,105 mm. But the real trick isn't the dimensions: the long-range version can travel up to 310 km on the CLTC cycle without ever starting the gasoline engine.

The S09 is a series hybrid, or EREV, and the logic is simple: gas only charges, the electric motors do the driving. The 1.5-liter turbo engine, rated at 150 hp, works purely as a generator. The rear-wheel-drive version's electric motor puts out 231 kW — about 314 hp. The all-wheel-drive version pushes combined electric output to 362 kW, or roughly 492 hp and 637 Nm. That configuration sprints to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. Seriously.

But the real story is the 53.49 kWh battery. The rear-wheel-drive S09 claims 310 km of pure electric range and up to 1,210 km of combined CLTC range. A 30-80% charge takes about ten minutes — faster than you can finish your coffee. Earlier versions with the smaller 40.18 kWh battery manage up to 220 km on electric power alone.

Inside, it's a genuine multimedia showcase for six, laid out 2+2+2. Two 15.6-inch front displays, a 21.4-inch ceiling screen for rear passengers and a 43-inch projection system — and that's not even all of it. Top-spec trims get Huawei's Qian Kun ADS Max suite with lidar, while the more affordable long-range Ultra makes do with lidar-free ADS SE.

In China, the S09 lineup is priced from 239,900 to 309,900 yuan — roughly $33,300 to $43,100. The rear-wheel-drive Ultra with the larger battery, launched in spring 2026, started at 259,900 yuan, or about $36,200.

An official Deepal S09 launch in Russia hasn't been confirmed yet — but that looks like a matter of time.
