At the Chengdu Auto Show, Changan's new UNI-V and hybrid Eado HEV expose a brutal pricing gap between China and export markets, with output figures that don't add up in Russia's favor.

Nobody expected the gap to be this wide — but there it was, right on Changan's stand in Chengdu. At the 29th China International Automobile Exhibition, the brand is showing off several sedans and liftbacks, and one of them is about to sting export-market buyers where it hurts most. The third-generation UNI—V in Chinese trim now runs a new 2.0-liter BlueCore turbo engine rated at 180 kW — that's 245 horsepower. Torque comes in at 400 Nm, paired with an 8-speed Aisin automatic, with 0–100 km/h done in 6.3 seconds.

And now for the numbers that made the trip to Chengdu worth it. The show stand lists a range of 102,900–119,900 yuan — roughly $14,300 to $16,700 at current exchange rates. Some export markets sell the same car for well over double that. And here's the kicker: the export-spec 2.0T actually makes less power — 235 horsepower and 390 Nm, both below the Chinese figures. Dimensions match: 4740x1838x1430 mm, with a 2750 mm wheelbase. You can't compare the sticker prices directly — import duties, logistics, and certification costs pile up fast outside China. But the gap is still hard to ignore.

Next to it sits a quieter story, but no less interesting — the Eado HEV. And this is where it gets unexpected: the hybrid pairs a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine making 72 kW with a 160 kW electric motor, and the modest 1.7 kWh battery never needs to see a plug. No charging required — you just get in and drive. Claimed urban fuel consumption drops to just 2.98 L/100 km. Official pricing runs from 89,900 to 99,900 yuan — roughly $12,500 to $13,900 — and current promotions in China push it even lower.

Export markets don't get that hybrid yet — only the standard gasoline Eado Plus is available so far. Changan's overseas teams have already acknowledged the existence of a fourth-generation Eado with the BlueCore hybrid system, but there's still no official word on when the HEV version will actually go on sale outside China. Remember that name — it's only a matter of time before it shows up.
