Renault is once again reaching for one of the boldest colors in its Kangoo history for Japan — and this time the choice says everything before the details even land. In September, the company will launch the Grand Kangoo Couleur in a shade called Orange Collonges — the long, seven-seat version will be limited to just 50 units and sold off through a lottery. The price hasn't been announced yet, and that's arguably the biggest tease of all.
The color's name nods to Collonge-la-Rouge in France, a village famous for its historic red-orange stone buildings. For the Kangoo, this shade isn't actually new: Orange Collonges has appeared on special editions of the model in Japan before, including the 2021 Kangoo Panache.
What makes this car interesting has less to do with color and more to do with layout. The Grand Kangoo packs three rows and seven individual seats. The second- and third-row chairs can slide, fold, and be removed entirely, while double-swing rear doors replace the usual liftgate.
Under the hood sits a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with a 7-speed EDC dual-clutch gearbox. The limited edition also gets black bumpers, the Extended Grip system, 16-inch all-season tires, and roof rails.
There's a key wrinkle to Renault's Japanese lineup here: the Grand Kangoo doesn't currently exist there as a regular, ongoing model. Instead, the automaker keeps rolling out this long seven-seater in limited Couleur runs. The previous version, Bleu Dragée, numbered 70 units and has already sold out completely.
Which is exactly why the price of this new orange batch remains the biggest unknown. Renault says it will reveal the sale terms in September. Until then, don't assume the previous Couleur's price tag will carry over — there's no guarantee it will.
