Jeep pulled the future Cherokee Trailhawk out of the photo studio and dropped it onto sand and rocks. In the second teaser, the off-road version tackles real terrain and already wears the Trail Rated badge. But the automaker is still hiding the most interesting part: the all-wheel-drive hardware, ground clearance, and even the powertrain remain officially unconfirmed.
And that matters. The regular 2026 Cherokee is hardly the most complex Jeep when it comes to drivetrain hardware — if anything, it’s the opposite. Its 1.6-liter turbo hybrid produces around 213 hp and 312 Nm, sips fuel at roughly 6.4 L/100 km, and pairs with Active Drive I. The official spec sheet lists a single-speed 4x4 system with no low-range gearing. Even the hybrid’s hardware and the origin of its components have already gotten their own official confirmation from BluE Nexus, Aisin, and Denso.
The Trailhawk may keep this same hybrid setup, but pair it with a beefier 4x4 system that adds Low Range. For now, that’s just a prediction — nothing more. Jeep hasn’t confirmed low-range gearing, a locking differential, or even the 213 hp figure for the new version.
Among the visible changes so far: a different front bumper and red tow hooks. Back in June, Jeep officially announced the Cherokee Trailhawk’s return, but only offered a single image and a promise to share details later. The new clip speaks for itself — development has moved into the final capability showcase, and a full reveal is genuinely close now.
The current Cherokee doesn’t have a particularly long runway, either: the next generation is already slated for production in 2029. So the Trailhawk has a very short window to prove one simple thing — that this new, efficient hybrid platform can bring back the off-road chops that the regular versions are so clearly missing.
