Toyota has made an unexpected trade with the Roomy: there is more safety, but the standard screen is gone. The updated compact van went on sale in Japan on August 31 at prices from 1,830,400 to 2,346,300 yen. And yes, it got more expensive. The previous Roomy X started at 1,742,400 yen, so the entry-level version now costs 88,000 yen more.
Toyota's main argument is safety. Smart Assist can now detect an oncoming vehicle when the driver turns right at an intersection, as well as pedestrians crossing from the opposite direction during right or left turns. Side airbags for the driver and front passenger, together with curtain airbags for both rows, are now standard across the Roomy range.
The cheapest X has changed the most. It now gets a driver's center armrest, height adjustment for the driver's seat, a storage box under the passenger seat, an Optitron instrument cluster and a color TFT display. The base Roomy is pricier, but at least part of the increase is visible in equipment owners will use every day.
Then comes the twist. The previously standard display audio system is gone: every Roomy now comes audio-ready by default, while the screen is optional. G and G-T versions can also be ordered with a 55,000-yen package that adds an electric parking brake, Brake Hold and adaptive cruise control operating across the full speed range.
For the Custom G and Custom G-T, Toyota has added another lure in the form of a new Another Style Package. It brings combination seat upholstery, chrome details and extra trim. The body-color palette has also been revised, with new gray-olive metallic paint and a two-tone option with a black roof.
This is not the end of the update. Special Welcab versions will receive the same changes later, with sales scheduled to begin on November 2, 2026. Toyota's official release applies only to the Japanese market.
Toyota had previously updated the Pixis Epoch in Japan and expanded the capabilities of Smart Assist.
