Porsche has finally shown its hand: the mysterious 911 GT3 Bergsport is no longer a rumor or a leak. The company has confirmed the number that matters most — exactly 100 cars will be built, and only customers in France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland will be able to buy one. It starts with the current 911 GT3 with the Touring Package, but Porsche deliberately tuned the concept for a very different mission — fast runs across demanding Alpine passes.
Then comes the twist. As part of the Lightweight Package, Porsche replaced the usual forged magnesium wheels with forged aluminum ones. It sounds almost like giving up the fight for every last gram, but the reason is practical: the aluminum wheels are meant to cope better with harsh mountain-road conditions. Standard equipment also includes a six-speed manual transmission, a front-axle lift system and a larger 90-liter fuel tank. All so the driver can spend less time thinking about anything but the next hairpin.
Porsche did not stop at the hardware. Valleygreenmetallic was created specifically for the GT3 Bergsport, drawing on the green and earthy tones of the Alps. The same idea continues inside with Valleygreen leather, folding carbon-fiber bucket seats and decorative stitching that traces mountain silhouettes. There is one more surprise — despite the Lightweight Package and the GT3's uncompromising character, the rear seating arrangement remains.
So the biggest question is settled: Porsche really will build only 100 of them. The stage for the debut could hardly be more fitting — Arosa ClassicCar in Switzerland. Its mountain course runs for 7.3 km, climbs 422 meters and packs in 76 corners. For a car called Bergsport, it is difficult to imagine a better place to appear.
