Range Rover has finally made the move it delayed for years: the British luxury SUV is now fully electric. The new Range Rover Electric can already be ordered in the UK from £154,070.
Under the body sit two 260 kW electric motors. Together they deliver 550 hp and 850 Nm, while 0–60 mph takes just 4.3 seconds. And if anyone feared electrification would turn the Range Rover into an ordinary city EV, the numbers say otherwise: it can wade through up to 900 mm of water and climb gradients of up to 45 degrees.
But the biggest number is the battery. Usable capacity stands at 118.5 kWh, while the official range reaches 372 miles, or up to 600 km on the WLTP cycle. JLR also gives a more cautious real-world estimate of up to 535 km on a standardised route. That roughly 65 km gap is a useful reminder that WLTP is a benchmark, not a promise for every trip.
Charging is equally serious. The 800-volt architecture supports DC fast charging at up to 350 kW, allowing the battery to go from 10 to 80% in about 22 minutes under ideal conditions. Ten minutes on a charger can add up to 220 km of WLTP range.
There is no design revolution, and that appears deliberate. The electric Range Rover shares its basic architecture with petrol, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. Most of the changes are aerodynamic, including a revised grille, wheels and underbody. Production takes place at Solihull, where Range Rover has been built for more than half a century.
Orders are open for short- and long-wheelbase versions in SE, HSE and Autobiography trim, plus SV, SV Ultra and SV Black. A special First Edition is also available for early buyers.
