No cab, no driver and a name that says exactly what it is — Stellantis is bringing a very unusual premiere to Hanover. At IAA Transportation 2026, the company will unveil the autonomous Box-on-Wheels, designed for “last mile” delivery. The world premiere is set for September 14, the show's press day. The doors open to the public on September 15.
So what is hiding inside this “box on wheels”? Stellantis is keeping the suspense alive. The company has not disclosed technical specifications for Box-on-Wheels or any possible timetable for series production. That means it is far too early to write off familiar city vans: officially, this is still an autonomous concept for urban logistics.
And Stellantis is not stopping with one odd machine. The second major debut will be Smart Compact Van, shown digitally in June and now heading for its first public appearance in Hanover. The version is offered as Citroën Berlingo FIRST, Fiat Doblò EASYPRO, Opel Combo START and Peugeot Partner ACTIVE. One of its most practical touches is the folding Flexiseat passenger seat, which adds 0.5 cubic meters of cargo volume.
Box-on-Wheels is more than a show-floor experiment. It is part of a much broader Stellantis Pro One overhaul. In May, the unit announced plans to launch 11 new commercial models by 2030, including next-generation vans and new multi-energy platforms. The target is ambitious: raise sales volume by 30% and gradually turn the business from simply selling vehicles into a full ecosystem of transport and logistics services.
That leaves the biggest question: how close is Box-on-Wheels to real work on city streets rather than a dramatic place on an exhibition stand? Answers are still scarce. But Stellantis promises more details on September 14, when we may finally learn whether this “box on wheels” is merely a technology showcase or a hint at a delivery revolution.
Earlier reports said Stellantis had filed a patent application for a folding bed cap for Ram pickups.
