Honda still has not announced a production Civic Type R HRC, yet a near-perfect finale for the FL5 generation is already taking shape around it. APOLLO NEWS SERVICE says an extreme version could arrive in 2027, potentially based on a rumored refreshed Type R. Tempting? Absolutely. But one detail matters: Honda has confirmed neither the timing, output of around 340 PS nor a price near 7 million yen.
The official plan already looks serious enough. At Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, Honda showed the Civic Type R HRC Concept and announced SPORT LINE, a new family of production road cars meant to bring racing technology beyond the circuit. In May, HRC President Koji Watanabe confirmed that development work on the Civic is continuing and said HRC Performance Parts are planned primarily for Japan and the United States.
That is where things get interesting. Japanese media predict around 340 PS instead of the current 330 PS, along with retuned suspension, stronger brakes, forged wheels and a weight cut of roughly 20–30 kg. But not every known HRC project should be treated as the same car. The Civic Type R HRC Concept racing in Super Taikyu is based on the Civic TCR, while the car with the same name shown at Tokyo Auto Salon is presented by Honda as a separate concept based on the road-going Type R.
A price near 7 million yen is also only a forecast. Honda currently lists the regular Type R in Japan at 4,997,300 yen and the Racing Black Package at 6,179,800 yen. If the rumored HRC version really reaches 7 million yen, the premium over the base car would approach 40%. Until Honda makes an official announcement, the biggest question remains open: will that striking concept really become a production car in 2027?
