The BMW X5 G05 has suddenly become a lot wider — and this is no case of simply sticking on a few flashy trim pieces. Germany's Prior Design has created a full PDG5XWB widebody kit for the SUV. It is designed for cars with the M package and dramatically changes the X5's silhouette with widened wheel arches, a new front splitter, a diffuser and no fewer than two rear spoilers.
That aggressive look comes at a price. A serious one. Prior Design sells the parts separately: the bonnet overlay costs €1450, the front splitter €1490, the air-intake surrounds €890, the wheel-arch extensions €3550, the rear diffuser €1090, while the two spoilers add another €850 each. Add up the seven main components and you land at €10,170 — before shipping, paint and installation.
And fitting it is not a simple glue-on job either. The manufacturer warns that the components must be test-fitted before painting and adjusted if necessary. To provide enough wheel clearance on a widebody build, the rear wheel arches may need trimming and, in some cases, the front fenders as well. The parts are made from glass-fiber reinforced plastic.
Do not expect extra horsepower, though. The PDG5XWB program is strictly a body conversion: Prior Design does not claim any engine changes or power increase for the BMW X5 shown here.
