Iconic brand Moke International is bringing its open-top electric cars to the California market. The California Collection is the first U.S. lineup to fully meet local safety and environmental standards: the cars are CARB-certified and cleared for regular road use. And unlike typical golf carts, there’s real pace on tap—rather than a 40 km/h cap, the new MOKE tops out at 80 km/h.

The electric MOKE keeps the spirit of the 1960s beach buggy, now paired with a 33 kW motor and a battery good for about 87 km of range. It isn’t aimed at freeway hauls; its sweet spot is leisurely resort runs along the coast, where the experience matters more than outright distance—and that range feels well judged for the brief.

Every car is hand-built in the United Kingdom, with more than 70% of components sourced from Europe. For the U.S. in 2026, production will be limited to just 325 units, offered in signature shades Sonoma Red, Laguna Blue, and Venice White—colors that neatly underline its seaside character.

There’s a price for the fun: in California, the MOKE starts at $49,500. It reads more like a premium indulgence for oceanfront homeowners or hotel fleets than a daily driver, yet for those who value open air and zero tailpipe emissions, it promises the kind of feel-good motoring that turns short trips into small events.
