Volkswagen has detailed the hardware of the new ID. Polo, a compact electric hatchback the company positions as an affordable EV for Europe. Sales are slated to begin in late April 2026, with the base price set below $29,000, or from €25,000. A full interior reveal is scheduled for January, while the final exterior will be shown closer to market launch — a measured rollout that keeps interest simmering as the debut nears.

Every version uses the new AP290 front-mounted motor, so the ID. Polo is front-wheel drive only, including the ID. Polo GTI planned for 2027. The entry setup pairs a 37 kWh (usable) LFP battery with a 114 hp motor, and the same pack will be offered with a 181 hp option. Both LFP variants claim up to 300 km WLTP. Charging supports AC up to 11 kW and DC up to 90 kW, with a 10–80% session taking roughly 27 minutes. The single-driven-axle approach signals a focus on cost discipline and packaging efficiency.

Long-range and sport-oriented trims switch to a 52 kWh NMC battery: 208 hp for the mid-level versions and 222 hp for the GTI, with maximum range up to 450 km WLTP. Fast charging rises to 130 kW, cutting a 10–80% top-up to 23 minutes; AC remains 11 kW. On paper, that balance of power, range, and charging speed lands right where a city-friendly EV needs to be.

PowerCo supplies cell-to-pack batteries mounted in the floor on the upgraded MEB+ platform. In size, the ID. Polo closely mirrors the petrol Polo and will be sold alongside it — a parallel run that should make the shift to electric less abrupt for loyal Polo buyers.
