Autotrader summed up 2025 new-car requests, and Tarantas News concluded that buyer interest is shifting while electric vehicles are securing a place in the big league. According to the platform, BMW was the most sought-after brand, accounting for 12% of all dealer inquiries for new models over the year. Land Rover trailed by a whisker at 11.9%, with Audi third on 8.2%.

By model, the leaders were Range Rover Sport (3.5% of requests), Volkswagen Golf (3.3%), and Range Rover (3.1%). Interest in Land Rover held strong even against a cyber incident that hampered the brand earlier in the year—evidence that the badge still carries weight with shoppers.

Most telling is the EV momentum. Electric cars generated 20.3% of all new-car leads, up from 16.3% a year earlier. In December the share climbed higher to 23%, a pattern that helps explain why carmakers leaned harder on year-end discounts and specials. MG drew the most attention among electric models, followed by BMW and Renault, with the MG4 serving as MG’s key magnet.

Another notable detail is the influx of new players. The Jaecoo 7 and BYD Seal U entered the top ten models by requests, underscoring how competition is tightening. Autotrader expects the number of brands to grow to around 80 by the end of 2026 and notes low brand loyalty in the EV space: many are ready to switch badges for their next purchase—a sign of a market still finding its shape.
