General Motors is continuing road tests of the next-generation GMC Sierra 1500, with its debut expected for the 2027 model year. This time, spy photographers captured a prototype that very likely represents the Denali trim—the range-topping and most luxurious version of the pickup.

Even under heavy black-and-white camouflage that conceals the panels and styling, certain cues point to its premium status. Chief among them are the wheels: the test truck wears new 22-inch multi-spoke alloys typical of Denali. The tires, judging by the tread, appear to resemble Bridgestone Alenza, long associated with GMC’s Denali models, including the Yukon on 22- and 24-inch setups.

For context, earlier next-gen Sierra prototypes were seen on more modest 18-inch wheels with Bridgestone Dueler tires, highlighting the difference in positioning. The rear of this truck is also fully masked, yet its overall tail architecture aligns with other 2027 Sierra test vehicles.

Preliminary information suggests the model may gain a reworked Multi-Flex/MultiPro tailgate and updated lighting. The timing of these images coincides with leaked patent drawings for the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and published details on the new Gen 6 Small Block V8, which will likely join GM’s light pickup powertrain lineup.

Previously, spy photos of the Sierra’s interior have shown a large central display and a new infotainment setup. All signs point to a thorough modernization aimed at reinforcing the GMC Sierra Denali’s position in the 2027 field and among the top full-size pickups. Even through the camouflage, the Denali’s intent is easy to read in upscale touches like its wheels and tires—hardware that makes the truck look expensive at first glance.

GMC clearly seems to be pushing for an even sharper divide between work-oriented trims and the premium segment. If the technical updates prove equally substantial, the Denali could once again set the tone for luxury pickups.
