Porsche has unveiled an unusual take on the 718 Boxster S, transformed into a dedicated camera car. The project was completed back in 2017 by a group of nine apprentices at Porsche’s Leipzig plant, but the company has only now officially presented it. The car was used to film promo pieces and test-drive sessions at the Porsche Experience Leipzig.

The headline modification is the reengineered front compartment, now able to accommodate a camera operator. To make that possible, the luggage area received soft padding and a safety-harness system. The Boxster also lost its soft top: in its place sits a tall roll cage that serves as a mounting point for filming equipment—a pragmatic trade-off that favors function over flair.

The body is finished entirely in matte black to avoid reflections during filming, and inside there’s a platform with harnesses plus additional wiring for hooking up cameras and laptops. In practice, this one-off Boxster became a work tool for the Porsche team, helping craft content about new models, including some of the brand’s standout cars in recent years. The whole setup feels purpose-built, letting the car fade from view and simply get the shot.
