PaxPower unveils Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with 6.6L V8 and off-road mods
American company PaxPower transforms a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with a naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 engine, 500hp output, and off-road upgrades for high-speed performance and overlanding.
American company PaxPower has unveiled an unusual project based on the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Instead of the typical supercharger, the company opted against forced induction and installed a naturally aspirated 6.6-liter V8 L8T engine, sourced from the heavy-duty Silverado HD. After tuning, PaxPower estimates the output at around 500 horsepower, emphasizing smooth torque delivery and reliability.
The original high-mileage 5.3 L84 engine was replaced entirely rather than being repaired. According to PaxPower, the new engine has its DOD (Displacement on Demand) and auto start-stop systems disabled, features that often raise concerns among owners.

The chassis was also modified for the project, featuring widened fenders, a long-travel Missoula suspension with about 11–12 inches of travel, Method wheels, and 37-inch BFGoodrich off-road tires. The owner chose King shocks over the more common Fox units, aiming to prioritize high-speed off-road performance.
The pickup was further outfitted for overlanding adventures. It includes side steps, an expedition kit in the bed with roof rack rails and a tent, plus MOLLE panels for securing tools and gear. Externally, it retains the pre-facelift front end of the 2019–2022 Silverado, complemented by an ADD bumper and Baja Designs lighting.
