Mercedes-Benz S680 Guard: armored luxury sedan with VR10 protection
Mercedes-Benz reveals the updated S680 Guard, an armored S-Class with VR10 ballistic protection, V12 engine, and luxury features for high-security transport.
Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the updated S680 Guard, the flagship armored version of the S-Class designed for transporting passengers in high-threat environments. According to SPEEDME.RU, this model is a factory-built solution that combines the maximum VR10 protection level with the comfort and technology of a luxury sedan.
At its heart lies a proven 6.0-liter biturbo V12 engine producing 603 horsepower, paired with 4Matic all-wheel drive. Due to its reinforced structure and armored components, the vehicle's curb weight reaches approximately 4.2 tons. The chassis and suspension have been adapted to handle the extra load, and the electronics cap the top speed at 190 km/h—an impressive figure for a car with this level of protection.
The ballistic protection meets the VR10 standard, allowing the car to withstand automatic weapon fire and explosive device impacts. The armor is integrated into the body's load-bearing structure, enhancing overall rigidity and stability during an attack. In emergencies, the vehicle maintains mobility thanks to Michelin PAX tires, which can travel up to 30 km even after a complete loss of pressure.
Passenger safety receives special attention. The S680 Guard features an automatic fire suppression system for the engine compartment and underbody, along with a reserve of about 900 liters of fresh air to isolate the cabin from smoke or toxic gases. Reinforced doors and hydraulic window lifts remain functional even if the main electrical system is damaged.
Despite the armor, the S680 Guard remains a full-fledged S-Class. The interior retains premium materials, digital technology, and a high level of acoustic comfort. This model targets government agencies, diplomatic missions, and private clients for whom security should not compromise status or convenience.
The S680 Guard clearly demonstrates that, even in an era of electric vehicles and downsizing, the V12 remains relevant where reliability, durability, and absolute protection are paramount.
