A Nissan owner has gone viral after sharing his unconventional method for dealing with the automatic engine start-stop system. The driver, named Ryan, found the feature so irritating that he decided to physically block the activation button.

His technique involves jamming the Start-Stop button in the pressed position by inserting a thin object into the gap between the button and the dashboard. Ryan used a rolled piece of paper instead of the suggested toothpick. He reports that the system has remained inactive, and he hasn't touched the button for weeks.

The auto start-stop system is designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions during stops. The engine shuts off when the brake is pressed and restarts when released. Dealers confirm the technology does save fuel, particularly in city driving, but it requires more robust starters and batteries and can be annoying for some drivers.

Manufacturers and experts warn that such modifications are not recommended and could affect safety or warranty. Meanwhile, social media discussions reveal many drivers are frustrated with having to manually disable Start-Stop on every trip. This Nissan story highlights the ongoing gap between engineering solutions and the practical habits of everyday motorists.
