Compact SUVs remain the most popular segment on the auto market thanks to their versatility, fuel efficiency, and practicality. However, a key factor in choosing one is not just comfort but reliability. According to Consumer Reports, the most durable models are proven ones with well-established technology.

The ranking is based on owner data and an analysis of breakdowns over several years of use. It considers not only first impressions but also how vehicles perform after three to five years, when real issues become apparent.

The leaders are the Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, Lexus UX, Subaru Forester, and Honda CR-V—models that showed the fewest faults.

The Mazda CX-5 stands out thanks to its proven 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine and classic automatic transmission, both refined to high reliability. The Toyota RAV4, especially in hybrid form, uses a simple and durable drivetrain without complex components.

The Lexus UX inherits the same hybrid system but adds a premium build quality. Subaru Forester focuses on safety and all-wheel drive, while the Honda CR-V, after updates, eliminated issues from earlier turbo engine versions.

The trend is clear: buyers are increasingly choosing not the most technologically advanced solutions but the most tried-and-tested ones. This is especially important on the used car market, where reliability directly affects ownership costs.
