Ford has officially closed the book on the F-150 Thunder. The Blue Oval just walked away from the trademark that fueled three years of speculation among American pickup fans — the one that hinted at a brand-new version of the full-size truck. The application landed at the United States Patent and Trademark Office back on June 27, 2022. It covered automobiles, pickup trucks, electric vehicles, SUVs, and structural parts — basically everything Ford could have ever released under that name.
And the Thunder name didn’t come alone. Similar filings surfaced for the Ranger and the Maverick, and in Canada the company locked down a full trio — F-150 Thunder, Ranger Thunder, and Maverick Thunder. The community immediately started talking about a new family of special-edition pickups. Spoiler — it never happened.
In North America, the Thunder name never made it past paperwork. Europe, however, got its own thunderclap — back in 2020 Ford released a limited-run Ranger Thunder with unique styling, capped at just 4,500 units. That’s the kind of case where a name works, but only on one continent.
Abandoning a trademark doesn’t automatically kill a finished model — but in this case, the odds of seeing an F-150 Thunder anytime soon are evaporating fast. Earlier, Tarantas News learned that the Ford Explorer Tremor 2027 has gained the Sun and Sound package with a panoramic roof.
