Volkswagen wants to get young drivers hooked on its cars — and it has designed a special ticket into its world. The ticket is called Polo Young. A version for those who just got their licence and want a compact city hatch with modern kit and no shocking price tag.
And the price really has been trimmed. On the list, the Polo Young goes for 22,250 euros, but with the trade-in or scrappage promo, that drops to 18,900 euros. Volkswagen and its dealers chip in a combined 3,350 euros — almost three and a half thousand euros knocked off in a single move. The campaign runs under the slogan L’inizio della tua Volkswagen Era — “the start of your Volkswagen era.” Sounds like a promise.
And here comes the first surprise. Despite being the entry-level version, the Polo Young doesn’t feel stripped out. Essex alloy wheels in 15 inches, tinted rear glass, LED headlights front and rear. Inside — an 8-inch Digital Cockpit and an infotainment screen of the same diagonal. Wireless smartphone charging. App-Connect Wireless with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Rear parking sensors, air conditioning, ready for VW Connect online services. For a “young driver’s car,” the kit list is impressive.
Safety hasn’t been cut either. On board: Front Assist with autonomous braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, Lane Assist, Fatigue Detection, a speed limiter. A full set of airbags too, including the central one between the front seats — the one that stops passengers from smashing into each other in a side impact.
Under the bonnet — a petrol 1.0 with 80 horsepower and a five-speed manual. Average WLTP consumption: 5.2 litres per 100 km. No hybridisation, no turbos, no complex electronics. A simple, honest, economical setup for buyers who care more about getting there than turning heads. The Polo Young isn’t trying to be everything at once. It knows who it’s selling to, and it speaks that audience’s language: price, kit, peace of mind behind the wheel. And right now, that pitch seems to be working better than any sport pack.
