Volkswagen’s ID.4 may lose its name entirely, gaining new looks, an Android Automotive interior and a range that finally rivals the competition.

The verdict is in — unofficially, for now. Volkswagen is preparing a deep overhaul of its electric ID.4 crossover, and according to Motor.es, the revamped model could drop its alphanumeric name entirely in favor of something far more recognizable: ID. Tiguan. There’s no official confirmation yet, but the hint is too obvious to ignore.

The crossover is expected to get a new hood, reworked lighting, and conventional door handles in place of the flush ones — a small detail that says more about the shift in direction than any press release could. The rear light shape will also change. Inside, expect a new dashboard, a larger central touchscreen, and an infotainment system built on Android Automotive.

The source also points to a more efficient electric motor and upgraded NMC-type traction batteries. The projected range could top 600 km — and that’s no cosmetic tweak, but a real attempt to close the gap with rivals that have long since pulled ahead on this front. Volkswagen has yet to disclose the model’s production specifications.

According to the outlet, the reveal could happen in late summer 2026, with a public debut at the Paris Motor Show. A price bump of roughly €3,000 over the current ID.4 is also expected. Neither the timeline nor the pricing has been officially confirmed.
