American electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has delayed the European launch of its mid-size R2 crossover. The company's website previously listed 2027 as the target launch year, but that date has now been removed. Exact timing for sales in Europe, including Germany, remains undisclosed.

Additionally, the R2's Canadian debut, originally planned for 2026, has been pushed to 2027. In the U.S., however, the model is still scheduled for a spring launch. Final specifications and pricing are expected in March, with deliveries on the home market beginning in the second quarter. The base price will be around $45,000 before taxes, equivalent to roughly €38,000.

The R2 will be Rivian's first mass-market model. The 4.7-meter-long crossover is built on a second-generation platform, which also underpins the updated R1S and R1T. Buyers will have the choice of single-, dual-, or triple-motor configurations. The top variant accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds. With an extended-range battery, maximum range exceeds 300 miles (about 480 km), and charging from 10% to 80% takes less than 30 minutes.

Rivian aims to deliver between 62,000 and 67,000 vehicles in 2026. In 2025, the company sold 42,247 EVs, an 18% drop from the previous year. The R2 is poised to be one of the most notable new cars of 2026, helping the brand boost sales volumes.
