Voyah CEO Lu Fang has detailed the capabilities of the new Taishan Ultra, positioned as China's first mass-produced SUV with Level 3 autonomous driving. The crossover features a new system based on Huawei ADS 4 with four lidars. A high-resolution lidar is mounted on the roof, complemented by side and rear solid-state sensors to eliminate blind spots. Combined with an updated domain controller and data processing algorithms, this setup has significantly improved the vehicle's ability to recognize pedestrians and obstacles.

According to the manufacturer, the car can independently determine the optimal driving path in narrow alleys, recognize complex obstacles, and even perform a "trace reverse" function—retracing its path when needed. Additionally, the Taishan Ultra incorporates a distributed system of five 4D millimeter-wave radars, enhancing control during lane changes and in dense urban traffic. In situations where other drivers make aggressive lane changes, the system can sound an alert and execute a corrective maneuver. The starting price for the model is 459,900 yuan.

Beyond the advanced autonomous driving system, the vehicle comes with an intelligent illuminated radiator grille and tinted windows. Chinese brands are betting on the rapid adoption of L3 technologies, and the Taishan Ultra serves as a prime example of this strategy. If the claimed functions perform reliably in real-world conditions, competition in the intelligent SUV segment will reach a new level.
