Ford to bring back passenger cars to Europe with new models from 2027
Ford CEO confirms plans to re-enter European passenger car market by 2027, focusing on hybrid and electric vehicles, including partnerships for compact EVs.
Ford CEO Jim Farley has confirmed plans to bring passenger car models back to the European market. Following the discontinuation of the Fiesta and Focus, the company intends to strengthen its presence in the passenger car segment starting in 2027.
Farley indicated that Ford will proceed cautiously, focusing on segments where the brand can ensure profitability for both itself and its dealers. Earlier, Ford Germany head Christoph Herr informed dealers that the company is investing in several new models, some of which will be developed in collaboration with partners. The lineup will feature versions with various powertrain types, including hybrid and fully electric options.
At the beginning of the year, Ford appointed Christian Weingärtner as General Manager for Passenger Vehicles in Europe. He will be responsible for developing this business area. Additionally, Ford has entered into a strategic partnership with Renault Group. This collaboration includes plans to produce two new electric vehicles on the Ampere platform, which are expected to be compact models.
Overall, this means new vehicles from 2026 onward should expand Ford's European model range, which in recent years has been focused primarily on commercial vehicles.
