EV owners more satisfied than ever, study finds
EV sales fell after the U.S. tax credit expired, but a J.D. Power study shows owners are highly satisfied, with 96% considering another EV.
Electric vehicle sales have dropped significantly since the U.S. federal tax credit for new EV owners expired. Yet, a J.D. Power study reveals that current electric car owners are more satisfied than ever.
According to the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience Ownership Study, EV owners report higher satisfaction levels. Crucially, 96% of EV buyers say they are considering purchasing or leasing another electric vehicle as their next car. This marks the highest figure in the five years the company has conducted the study.
Brent Gruber, executive director of the EV practice at J.D. Power, noted that while EV market share plunged after the federal incentive program ended in September 2025, this decline contrasts with steadily rising satisfaction among new EV owners.
Experts attribute the improved ownership experience to advances in battery technology, the expansion of dedicated charging networks, and an overall increase in product quality from automakers.
