Subaru has unveiled a new racing prototype called the WRX STI High Performance X Version II, featuring a hatchback body. This model is designed for Japan's Super Taikyu racing series and will make its debut at the Mobility Resort Motegi circuit on March 21.

The car blends design elements from the WRX sedan with the Impreza and Crosstrek hatchbacks. Its front end mirrors the current WRX, complete with the signature hood scoop, while the rear adopts a sporty hatchback shape with a large rear wing and diffuser.

Under the hood sits a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four engine. In this racing configuration, it produces 359 horsepower and 475 Nm of torque, a significant increase over the production WRX's 271 horsepower and 350 Nm. The engine runs on bioethanol fuel with 20% ethanol content, which helps reduce emissions.

Power goes to all four wheels via Subaru's Symmetrical AWD system. The car features a six-speed manual transmission, an adjustable center differential, and brakes with six-piston front calipers. It also rides on lightweight 18x10-inch BBS racing wheels.

Subaru has not confirmed a production version yet. However, the company notes that its motorsport involvement helps test technologies and evaluate potential models, including future sports cars planned for 2026.
