BMW introduces digital recall system for imported vehicles in Romania
BMW partners with Romania's Automotive Registry to launch Europe's first digital system for checking recall campaigns on imported vehicles, enhancing transparency in the used car market.
BMW has partnered with Romania's Automotive Registry to launch Europe's first digital system for checking recall campaigns on imported vehicles. This initiative aims to boost transparency in the used car market.
Pre-Registration Vehicle Check
The new system automatically analyzes a vehicle's history even before it is registered in the country. It helps determine if a car is subject to a recall or has technical issues, which is particularly relevant for the Romanian market. Tens of thousands of cars are imported there annually, with around 55,000 BMWs imported in 2025 alone, a 10% increase from the previous year.
Free Issue Resolution
If a vehicle falls under a recall campaign, all repairs are handled free of charge at official BMW and MINI service centers. This reduces risks for buyers and makes the purchasing process more predictable. Company representatives note that a recall does not always indicate a serious defect; in many cases, it involves preventive measures.
A New Standard for the Used Car Market
The system is fully digital, allowing for quick vehicle checks via an online platform. Romania has also introduced BMW Digital Service Only, a contactless service format. BMW's move could set an example for other manufacturers and countries, especially as the used car market grows. Overall, this approach has the potential to transform how vehicles are inspected and purchased.
By implementing this, BMW is effectively establishing a new safety standard for Europe's used car market, lowering risks and building greater consumer trust.
