After a long wait, the Cadillac Lyriq finally gets a feature that was promised when the model launched. GM has started rolling out an OTA update for the 2026 electric crossover, adding Surround Vision Recorder—video capture from the surround-view cameras.

This goes back to the Lyriq's debut. When Cadillac unveiled the 2023 model, Surround Vision Recorder was supposed to be standard. Early cars even had the necessary hardware, but HD Surround Vision and camera recording weren't active at launch. GM then said the functionality would come later via an over-the-air update. The item later vanished from the official spec sheet, and some owners started wondering if it would ever appear.

Now GM is starting to deliver, though only for the 2026 Lyriq. The update is labeled GM Update 661.20 and tied to Field Action N25-253993. It targets the Virtual Cockpit Unit and enables recording, viewing, and saving video from the car's exterior cameras.

Another addition is Security Recording. When a parked Lyriq is in guard mode and the alarm goes off, the system can automatically start recording. Owners can use this for break-in attempts, parking lot dings, or disputes near the car.

Cabin Glance has also been added: drivers can see a live cabin feed on the multimedia screen. GM says it's for monitoring passengers, children, or pets during trips. The update also makes the driver display and rearview camera more responsive, and improves the reliability of warnings and chimes.

Under the skin, the Lyriq is still the same electric crossover based on GM's BEV3 platform, built at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. The situation highlights just how software-dependent modern cars are: a key feature may already be in the hardware, but owners have to wait for a software switch to flip it on.

This is more than a minor update for the Lyriq. Camera recording turns the surround-view system from a parking aid into a tool for protecting the car and gathering evidence when things go wrong.
