Nobody saw this coming — Chevrolet just launched the Traverse Z71 in Ecuador. The three-row crossover made its debut at Autoshow Guayaquil 2026, and sales are set to start within weeks. Local buyers won’t get a base trim, either: only the off-road-ready Z71 is confirmed for the country, and every unit will ship straight from the Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan. GM hasn’t revealed local pricing or the final equipment list yet.
And here’s where it gets interesting. This isn’t just a family crossover with a badge stuck on the fender. Under the hood sits the familiar 2.5-liter turbo four making 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft (about 442 Nm) of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic. But the Z71 gets what the regular versions don’t: twin-clutch AWD, an off-road-tuned suspension, a dedicated Terrain mode, and hill descent control. Those are the pieces that actually set the Z71 apart — not the trim badges.
The 2027 model year leaves the powertrain untouched. Instead, Chevrolet is doubling down on electronics: the new model year adds an interior camera that monitors the cabin and can record footage. Whether the full US feature set makes it into the Ecuadorian spec is still an open question — GM isn’t saying yet.
Ecuador is now the fourth market in GM’s Pacific cluster in South America to get the Traverse Z71, following Colombia, Chile and Peru. For Chevrolet, it’s also a step up the local SUV ladder, where the Tahoe and Suburban already sit at the top. The first retail units should reach dealers once the brand confirms local specs and pricing.
