Land Rover's 2026 roadmap: Range Rover Electric, Sport EV and next-gen Velar EV
Land Rover accelerates in 2026: Range Rover Electric, a sharper Sport EV and a next-gen Velar EV (800-V, up to 600 km). Plus Sport SV with twin-turbo V8.
2026 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for Land Rover: the brand plans to quicken its shift toward battery-powered SUVs, with the Range Rover family at the center. Despite production and financial challenges, the company—judging by its statements and the steady cadence of test prototypes—shows no intention of easing off; if anything, electrification becomes the main storyline.
The headline act is the Range Rover Electric. Development has taken longer than planned, but the brief is clear: preserve flagship-level luxury and off-road credibility while adopting a battery drivetrain. The target range is about 500 km on the WLTP cycle, and output is promised to align with the model’s status. In parallel, Land Rover is preparing a light refresh for the combustion Range Rover: reworked trims, tech upgrades and an adjusted engine portfolio. The aim is to standardize improvements so parts of that work flow into the EV as well. That sequencing feels pragmatic: keep the core Range Rover current while the electric flagship comes into focus.
Next up is the Range Rover Sport. In 2026, a fully electric Sport is expected to emphasize dynamics and a chassis tuned for a crisper feel than the regular Range Rover. Arriving alongside it, the Range Rover Sport SV stands as a separate, more extreme take with a traditional engine: a 4.4‑liter twin‑turbo V8. In essence, it caters to those not ready to go electric yet but still seeking maximum performance. It’s a sensible two-track approach for a performance audience in transition.
The third major update is a generational overhaul for the Range Rover Velar. It is being developed as a pure EV with an 800‑volt architecture, more than 500 hp in higher-spec versions, and a WLTP range target of around 600 km. The intent is to make it one of the brand’s most ambitious projects and a genuine draw for new audiences. If executed as described, the Velar looks poised to become the clearest statement of Land Rover’s EV intent.
