JLR and Chery launch new Freelander electric SUV in China
JLR and Chery unveil the new Freelander, a mid-size electric SUV with 800-volt architecture, available in EV, hybrid, and range-extended versions.
JLR, in partnership with Chery, has unveiled the new Freelander, a mid-size SUV built on an electrified platform. The model debuted in China and will be the first in the lineup of this new brand.

This vehicle features an 800-volt architecture and will be available with several powertrain options: fully electric, range-extended, and plug-in hybrid. The manufacturer plans to release new Freelander models every six months over the next five years.
In practice, the design nods to the original Freelander, including its distinctive rear pillar shape. The model blends off-road capability with comfort for urban driving.

Production is based in China, where the new model will replace the Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport at the Changshu plant. The company has confirmed that the model will also launch in international markets, including Europe. Specific versions will be tailored to meet the requirements of different countries.
Overall, this new model is part of a strategy to introduce premium SUVs globally by 2026, where manufacturers are focusing on electrification and versatility.
