Mercedes-AMG has opened the order books for the new GLE 53 4MATIC+ and GLE 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+. Customers can place their orders through dealers or online, according to the brand's press office.
In Germany, pricing for the GLE 53 4MATIC+ starts at €120,047 for the SUV body style and €126,372 for the coupe. The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ kicks off at €128,781 for the standard SUV and €135,106 for the coupe.
The biggest technical update is a revised 3.0-liter inline-six. It features a new cylinder head, redesigned intake and exhaust ports, a fresh camshaft, a new intake system, and an upgraded charge air cooler. The pure gasoline variant with a 48-volt system puts out 449 hp and 600 Nm. An integrated starter-generator can temporarily add an extra 23 hp and 205 Nm. Sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.9 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
The GLE 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ is considerably more potent. Here, the gasoline engine teams up with a 184-hp electric motor for a combined output of 585 hp and 750 Nm. This hybrid crossover hits 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, shaving 0.2 seconds off the previous model's time. On electric power alone, it can reach up to 140 km/h, and WLTP-rated electric range is 88–91 km for the SUV and 90–93 km for the coupe.
There's an important caveat regarding fuel economy. The hybrid is rated at 4.2–3.8 L/100 km and 22.6–22.1 kWh/100 km, but with a depleted battery, gasoline consumption jumps to 10.9–10.4 L/100 km. In other words, the efficiency of this version depends heavily on regular charging.
Visually, the new GLE 53 models stand out with a revised AMG grille, fresh air intakes, updated LED lighting signatures, rear lights featuring a star pattern, and the brand's signature AMG exhaust system. Standard equipment includes AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with adaptive dampers. The 48-volt version can be optioned with AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL, which actively suppresses body roll.
