Mazda placed its bet — and hit the bullseye. The all-electric CX-6e crossover hasn’t even reached European showrooms, and German pre-orders are already smashing every forecast. The most curious twist? Buyers aren’t reaching for the cheapest version. They’re going for the priciest one.
The pre-order leader is the range-topping Takumi Plus — chosen by 47% of customers. At €52,990 (a full €3,000 above the base Takumi at €49,990), it brings digital exterior mirrors, a digital interior mirror, 21-inch Diamond Cut alloys, and a two-tone Maztex upholstery in amethyst and white. What was meant to be a rare upgrade for enthusiasts has become the choice of the majority.
Then there’s the color. The new Nightfall Violet — a shifting purple metallic that fades almost to black in low light — was ordered by more than half of all CX-6e buyers and nearly 80% of those who picked Takumi Plus. And that’s with a €1,190 surcharge on top. Mazda offers seven body colors in total, all paired with a glossy black roof and pillars. But purple won by a landslide.
Under the skin sits a single 258-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle, fed by a 78 kWh LFP battery. WLTP range is up to 484 km on Takumi and 468 km on Takumi Plus — those big wheels take their toll. Charging from 10 to 80% takes 24 minutes on a 195 kW DC station, and the crossover can tow up to 1,500 kg.
In a segment where everyone is fighting on range numbers, Mazda placed its bet elsewhere — on design, equipment, and a color you can spot from across the street. And judging by the order books, it called the shot.
