Audi is taking the Nuvolari to war. On Italy's Nardò proving ground, a near-production prototype has been put through its paces — and the company couldn't resist, dropping the video. The supercar had already been spotted at the Nürburgring, but now it's the Italian oval at flat-out speeds.
Under the hood — a genuine beast. Plug-in hybrid: a 4.0-liter biturbo V8, a 7.3 kWh lithium-ion battery and three axial-flux electric motors. Combined output: 987 hp, or 1,001 metric ‘horses’. The figure is no accident — Audi loves round symbols.
Now the performance. Zero to 100 km/h: 2.6 seconds. Top speed: north of 350 km/h. In the footage the car drifts through corners under perfect control and tracks straight like the oval is boring it.
The active rear wing also gets its first reveal. Three modes: closed, low downforce, high downforce. It works on its own — or on the driver's command. And, by the way, it doubles as an air brake. Peak downforce: more than 400 kg. That's not a wing, that's an aerodynamic anchor.
Audi says prototypes are running all over the world right now. European orders open in the fourth quarter, deliveries start in the first half of 2027. Just 499 cars will be built — not one more. The Nuvolari will be the most powerful production Audi in history. And, by every indication, the fastest car ever to wear four rings in road-going form.
